LG's INFINIA™ LX9500
LG Infinia 47LX9500 is a beautiful HDTV with integrated 3D, LED backlighting, and Internet connectivity. It offers excellent image quality with good black levels and color accuracy.
The 47LX9500 has an extremely thin bezel that frames the entire 47" screen and is only 1.3-inches thin. The base provides good support for the approximately 50 pound TV and lets for some swivel adjustment. Because the bezel is so thin, LG has put the buttons (including the power button) on the rear of the TV, so finding and using them can be a little difficult.
The remote control is a decent size at just over 9-inches. The number pad is backlit as well as a navigation area and a few other buttons too. LG includes a smaller remote for controlling the basic functions of the TV. It also has a pointer feature that lets you use it like a Nintendo Wii controller in terms of navigation.
LG hasn't changed much of the menus from their other TVs and that's good because they are easy to navigate and look good too. LG has included six picture presets: Standard, Intelligent Sensor, Vivid, THX Cinema, THX Cinema Bright Room, Game, and Sports. You may also manually adjust the brightness, contrast, backlight, sharpness, and color settings too to your liking. Remember, there's no universal "best" setting because it all depends on your viewing environment. LG included their TruMotion feature on this TV, which increases the refresh rate to reduce motion blurring.
LG has included many inputs on this model, including three HDMI ports, VGA, RS-232, Ethernet input, audio in, audio out, and TV coaxial connector on the backside. The left side has one HDMI port, one component jacks, a headphone port, and two USB ports. This TV does support wireless HDMI (wHDI) to connect HDMI devices without cables, but you have to purchase the wHDI box separately. The native resolution of this 47" model is 1920 x 1080 (1080p HD) and has a refresh rate of 480Hz. It is also 3D enabled, but more on that later. The viewing angle is rated at 178 degrees, which is pretty much as good as it gets. The brightness rating is 500cd/m2, which gives you some pretty good brightness, but sometimes a little too bright, so some manual adjusting might be required. The backlight on this model is LED-based. Contrast seemed to be pretty good, but bright scenes looked washed out and too bright. Dark levels were good and seemed consistently good. High-definition 2D 1080p video looked stunning on this LG 47LX9500 TV, looking very sharp and colors looking well-defined. Standard definition video also looks good on this TV.
The LG 47LX9500 TV is also 3D capable and can be turned on and off right from the TV's remote. The 3D transmitter is built-into the TV and isn't seen. The 3D glasses have a hefty cost at $180 each. The glasses aren't adjustable at all and are actually quite uncomfortable to wear. However, the 3D image quality is very good and looked excellent.
