LG 55LD650 LCD 55"
LG is on the cutting edge of electronics, and there's no category where this is more evident than their premier lineup of LCD TVs. The LG 55LD650 is a perfect example of what this company can do with an LCD TV display. The LD650 is the leading LCD TV on the market today and has received our TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award, with a slick black border surrounding the 55-inch screen. The LG logo is displayed on the bottom of the screen and the TV is held up by a unique swivel stand for the best viewing angle anywhere in the house. This TV also provides its customers with an array of Internet Apps, amazing picture and one of the thinner designs on an LCD TV. Overall the LG 55LD650 looks great and provides an amazing viewing experience.
Features:
The LG 55LD650 may not be the thinnest LCD TV on the market, but the 3.8-inch screen is still very thin compared to the old CRT TVs that used to be common in every house. Along with a very thin TV you are going to love the two hidden speakers on either side of the TV which provide surprisingly full sound when used in a small or medium sized room. If you plan on using this LCD TV in a larger room or simply want the best sound possible, we would suggest enhancing your setup with a surround sound system. We find it odd that LG doesn't disclose the amount of power this LCD TV uses; for some this may not matter, but for those who want to go green and save on their monthly bills it is a must.
Your TV should let you do more than just watch a movie from your local movie rental location or view your favorite reality show. With today's advanced technology, your TV can also have access to the internet and be able to access Nextflix, YouTube, Vudu, Picasa or other such applications for a little extra fun. The LG 55LD650 LCD TV has what's called “NetCast Entertainment Access,” which gives you access to all of these fun and entertaining extras and is able to do so via Wi-Fi. Not only does this allow for quick access to online features, it also reduces the amount of time you'd have to spend stringing cords throughout the house so you can connect your TV to the internet. This is a huge plus if you have a wireless connection.
Display:
When it comes to finding that perfect LCD TV, everyone knows the first thing you notice is how clear the picture is and how well it comes across on a large TV. With the LG 55LD650 you will be engulfed in what we believe is the best picture quality you can find on a 55-inch LCD TV. This is first due to the fact that this amazing TV is able to achieve full HD 1080p resolution.
Next, the average contrast ratio on an LCD TV screen is right around 100,000:1, which means you are going to get a clear HD picture even on a large screen. The LG 55LD650 on the other hand has a 200,000:1 contrast ratio, which gives you the best picture possible no matter where you’re TV is located in the house. The rich colors make such vibrant images, it's actually better looking than real life. It also has a response time of 2ms, an aspect ratio of 16:9 and the top-of-the-line 240Hz refresh rate, which will put you right in the middle of any sporting event or action movie. The combination of all these high-end technologies will leave you with a feeling of satisfaction every time you turn on your TV, whether it's for the big game or to simply watch the local news.
LG understands that you may be using your new LCD TV in the living room, bedroom or home theater and has thus implemented a very well-designed adjustment system for your TV. The LG 55LD650 has a system set up for self-calibration, which will automatically change your black levels, color, tint, backlight levels and sharpness with just one simple step. This will completely eliminate the need to change setting after setting to get the picture you want. If by chance you are still not satisfied with the self-calibration, you can always go back and do some additional fine tuning on your own.
Connections:
The LG 55LD650 has just about the most complete set of inputs found on any LCD TV on the market today. On the rear panel of the TV you'll find four HDMI slots for connecting your Blu-ray player, PS3 or any other HD-compatible device. There are also two sets of component and composite video inputs as well as a PC input and an Ethernet port. To view videos and images from a camcorder or camera, there are also two USB ports. Overall there are plenty of connections to get just about any home entertainment center off the ground without purchasing a lot of extras.
Help & Support:
Being able to contact someone before, after or during the purchase process is not just a nice extra but a must for any company that bases many of their sales online. We feel that LG has a pretty good grasp on what to offer their customers in terms of help and support along the way. On their site you will be able to access live chat and online manuals. You'll also find an email address and phone number to contact their support team. All of these were easy to use and provided quick help to just about any question we had. The one thing that is missing from their site is an online FAQs section. We were disappointed that they were missing this quick troubleshooting reference, and we hope they add one in the future.
Summary:
LG has come a long way over the past few years and has truly made a name for itself. The LG 55LD650 is a perfect example of the high quality this company can provide its customers. The crystal clear picture, loads of online features and overall thin design and slick style all contribute to the top rank of this product. If you want an LCD TV that won't break the bank and has the best picture quality in its class, the LG 55LD650 is hands-down the best choice.
